New subdivisions on open lots
Seymour started out as Newell's Station in 1783, was Trundles Crossroads for most of the 1800s, and took its name from a railroad engineer in 1909. These days it's growing fast: 14,705 people in the 2020 census, up from 10,919 in 2010. Most of that growth is new subdivisions off Boyds Creek Highway, places like Majestic Meadows, Eagle Den and Temple Acres.
A lot of those homes sit on open lots with few big trees between the house and the road. On a lot like that the roofline is the whole show, so we outline every peak and gable, then add lit shrubs or a wrapped tree out front so the house doesn't look like it's floating in the dark.
Is there a Seymour rule about Christmas lights?
No town rule, because there's no town government. Seymour voters have turned down incorporating more than once, so it's county land on both sides of the line. Some of the newer neighborhoods, like Spring Meadows and Simmons View, do have homeowners associations. If yours has covenants, send them over and we'll design to them.
The Seymour Christmas parade
The Seymour Area Chamber of Commerce has run the community Christmas parade down Chapman Highway for more than 30 years, usually on a Saturday afternoon in mid-December, and it raises money for Seymour families who need help at Christmas. If you're near the route and want your house lit when everyone's out, book in the fall.

Questions from Seymour
Do you come out to Seymour?
Yes. Seymour is about 25 minutes from downtown Knoxville on Chapman Highway, and we cover both the Sevier County and Blount County sides, out toward Boyds Creek.
My house faces the mountains, not the road. Which side do you light?
Usually the side people see from the road. If you spend your evenings on a back deck looking at the Smokies, we can light that side too, or both.
Does my Seymour HOA have a say in my lights?
It can. Seymour has no town ordinance on holiday lights, but some subdivisions have covenants. Send them to us and we'll design to them.
